Max Homa Makes Surprising Admission About Wife Lacey
Two years ago Max Homa was the No. 5 ranked player in the world and looked like the next great American golfer.
Just two years later, though, Homa is struggling to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs. After missing seven cuts this season - including five in a row before a T-12 at the Masters - the Ryder Cup star is finally back near the top of the leaderboard.
Through three rounds at the John Deere Classic this weekend, Homa sits at 14-under and just one shot behind reigning champion Davis Thompson. "Yeah, I have a plan. This is the - it's only been two and a half days or so, but it really feels like this is a nice step for me with the long game," he said after his second round.
"It's definitely the best 36 holes off the tee I've had in a while consecutively, so that's nice. I'm just trying keep getting better every day. I don't particularly worry about what place I'm in on the leaderboard. If I'm up near it on Sunday, that's when you start to think a little bit and game plan."
During his post-round interview on July 4, a reporter asked. "You said Rickie gave your wife rides home from high school?" to which Homa made a surprising revelation - the two went to school together.
"Yeah, they used to live by each other. They've known each other forever. He's in her older brother's yearbook, so it's kind of funny. Small world," Homa revealed.
Homa, in search of his first win since 2023 at the Farmers Insurance Open, admitted the 2025 season hasn't exactly been too kind to him - but he's looking forward to the stress of Sunday.
“Golf is just been very boring for me this year,” Homa said. “I haven't had a whole lot of stress, and you want to be stressed out. So I look forward to the butterflies in the morning; I look forward to the first tee shot. It's just nice to get to feel that again. It's been a while.”
Homa will tee off in the penultimate group with Emiliano Grillo at 1:35 p.m. ET.
