Cup of Coffee: A pair of rehab assignments continue in Portland, Greenville bullpen impresses in victory

Worcester's offense could not find its footing while failing to get a hit with runners in scoring position to drop its third game in a row. Isaac Coffey started and picked up the loss with three runs allowed, including two home runs, three walks, four hits, and four strikeouts in four innings of work. Following Coffey, Hobie Harris and Jose Adames combined for four scoreless frames out of the WooSox bullpen. Worcester's only run of the night came off the bat of Seby Zavala, who launched a solo home run in the top of the fourth that cut the deficit to 2-1 at the time. Kristian Campbell went hitless out of the DH spot while Jhostynxon Garcia and Vaughn Grissom each picked up a knock.

Hunter Dobbins started his rehab assignment strong with five innings of one-run ball with no walks and eight strikeouts, throwing 44 of his 62 pitches for strikes. David Sandlin took over for Dobbins and eventually was charged with the loss as he allowed the final three runs over four innings with five hits, a walk, and five strikeouts on his ledger. Also rehabbing alongside Dobbins was Masataka Yoshida, who went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles, a walk, and two runs batted in. Portland couldn't string together any other offense outside of Yoshida, as Ahbram Liendo, Allan Castro, and Ronald Rosario were the only other Sea Dogs to record hits.

Despite falling behind 4-1 after two, the Greenville offense erupted for 10 unanswered runs behind a three-hit, two-RBI evening from Nazzan Zanetello and a three-RBI outing for Antonio Anderson. Along with Zanetello and Anderson, Johanfran Garcia and Yophery Rodriguez also registered two-hit performances with RBIs to their statline. Erik Rivera earned the win with 3 1/3 stellar innings out of the bullpen after Danny Kirwin struggled to start. Kirwin allowed four runs in 1 2/3 frames without striking anyone out, while Rivera held Asheville hitless with a walk and four strikeouts. Matt McShane picked up where Rivera left off with three perfect innings, and Isaac Stebans pitched the ninth to close out the win.

The Salem offense ripped 12 hits with seven different Red Sox hitters reaching base at least twice and Griffin Kilander registered a strong start to help Salem take a 3-2 series lead on the week. Although he did not earn a decision in the victory, Kilander tossed four scoreless innings with two hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Salem jumped out of the gates strong with a three-run opening inning thanks to RBI doubles from Natanael Yuten and Frederik Jimenez and capped with a Starlyn Nunez RBI single. Justin Gonzales had his second multi-hit game over his last three contests and added an RBI in the win, joining Endy Azocar, Kleyver Salazar as well as Nunez and Yuten with two-hit performances. Eybersson Polanco recorded the win in relief of Kilander, pitching two innings with three earned runs.

A Gerardo Rodriguez double in the seventh was the only hit the Red Sox could muster in the defeat and Gilbel Galvan allowed three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the loss in the first game of the doubleheader. Alex Bouchard started for the Red Sox and allowed an unearned run with three strikeouts across 1 2/3 innings. Denison Sanchez followed Bouchard and dazzled with six strikeouts with a pair of walks over 3 1/3 frames before Galvan took over in a 1-1 game.   

Outside of Rodriguez's double, Tavano Baker, Edwin Brito, and Efren Teran were the only other baserunners as a result of walks as the offense struck out 11 times. 

Another late-inning meltdown by the Red Sox bullpen led to a doubleheader sweep by the Twins. The Red Sox carried the lead on four separate occasions including a 5-4 lead heading into the top of the seventh before Madinson Frias, who was charged with the loss, allowed two runs in the inning. Yoelvin Chirino started the game for the Red Sox and allowed three runs with five hits along with two walks and five strikeouts. 

Jorge Rodriguez and Gerardo Rodriguez each contributed two hits with Jorge Rodriguez providing two run-scoring singles in the first and third innings. Alexander Mambel powered his second home run of the season to raise his OPS to 1.037 across 34 plate appearances.

A wild back-and-forth game saw the lead change hands four times, featured a combined 20 walks and ended with a walk-off by Emmanuel Figuereo to give Team Blue the win. Eight different batters recorded at least one hit for Team Blue with Andruw Zambrano leading the way with a 2-for-3 outing with a walk added to his statline. Dorian Soto powered Team Red with a pair of hits, runs, and runs batted in. In 22 games this season, one of Boston's top international signings last year has recorded an .898 OPS with 14 RBIs. 

Erickson Ettien took the loss for Team Red after allowing five runs (three earned) in an inning while Yariel Valdez earned the win with two scoreless frames.

Player of the Day: Despite his season not going the way he had hoped for so far, Nazzan Zanetello flashed some of the tools that made him a high-round draft pick in 2023. The infielder went 3 for 6 with a double, two RBIs and a stolen base in Greenville's win over Asheville. Zanetello's hitting slashline sits at .177/.316/.284 through 67 games.
