Saratoga Springs bike park pump track opens
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The city of Saratoga Springs has opened part of its three-phase bike park. According to city officials, the first stage of the park consisted of a $400,000 pump track, which opened to bicyclists on June 30.
The bike park and pump track were first proposed in 2022 by Anna Laloë, the executive director of Saratoga Shredders (also known as Shredders MTB), a youth cycling and mountain biking organization. Construction on the pump track began in April 2025.
The Velosolutions Asphalt Pump Track is a competition level course that can be used by all experience levels and is one of the first installed in the state.
"This project is a Shredders dream, but 100% of the credit goes to the City of Saratoga Springs. Four brave middle school aged girls presented the idea of a bike park to the Rec Commission in 2022, and since then everyone has been excited to make it a reality," Laloë said.
The remaining phases of the park include a bicycle playground and a jump course. The remaining phases will cost about $650,000, with $400,000 in funding already pledged by Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner.
"One of the best parts of being Mayor is playing a role in supporting great projects like the bike park that bring enjoyment to our youth and families in the City," said Mayor John Safford.
The pump track phase was funded by the City's capital budget. The bike park is located behind the Vernon Ice Rink on Weibel Avenue.
"This is another great amenity for Saratoga Springs, it adds to the list of things we can provide as recreational resources for bike enthusiasts of all ages," said Commissioner of Public Works Chuck Marshall said. "I’m excited to officially open the bike park today."
