Remnants of Tropical Storm Chantal expected in NY, NJ this week
NEW YORK (PIX11) – Remnants of Tropical Storm Chantal are expected to hit the tri-state area as soon as Monday, according to PIX11 meteorologists.
The storm, as well as a warm front, will bring showers and thunderstorms to New York and New Jersey. Meteorologists said the rain could last through most of the week, possibly until Thursday.
Humidity is also expected to make it feel like the mid to upper-90s outside on Monday and Tuesday.
Tropical Storm Chantal is expected to make landfall in South Carolina by Sunday afternoon. The storm's winds have hit up to 50 mph and flash flooding is a concern, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Some areas of North Carolina could see up to 6 inches of rain by Monday.
Intense rain and flooding in Texas led to the deaths of at least 38 adults and 21 children in one county. Some of the victims were children at Camp Mystic, which is along the Guadalupe River, according to state and county officials.
