The final game of the Cubs’ holiday-weekend series with the rival Cardinals began in a delay.
“Due to weather in the area, we expect the start of tonight’s game to be delayed,” read a message on the Wrigley Field video boards.
The game was scheduled to start at 5:10 p.m. and slated for a national broadcast as part of ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball.”
The Cubs took the first game of the series Friday, smacking a franchise-record eight home runs on the Fourth of July, while the Cardinals came back for a victory Saturday.
The first baseman followed up his three-homer game Friday with another homer Saturday, expanding his hot streak to success against left-handed pitching, not typically his strong suit.
