Shubman Gill-led India scripted history as they shattered 46-year old record during their second Test against England at Birmingham, Edgbaston on Sunday.
Gill became the youngest player to win a Test match oversees
At 25 years and 301 days, Gill became the youngest Indian captain to win a Test match oversees. India’s triumph at Edgbaston their first in nine Test matches leveled the five-match series at 1–1. The win also surpassed their previous largest Test victory, a 318-run win against the West Indies at North Sound.
Shubman Gill surpasses Sunil Gavaskar
Shubman Gill broke Sunil Gavaskar’s 49-year-old record, which was set in 1976 during a match against New Zealand in Auckland. Gavaskar was 26 years and 202 days old when he led India to a victory over England as captain.
Gill amassed 430 runs
Gill led by example, amassing 430 runs 269 in the first innings and 161 in the second. This came on the heels of his 147 at Headingley in the first Test, a match India lost despite his ton.
Gill has scored 587 runs so far
With a total of 587 runs so far, he is the top scorer in the series. With three Tests still remaining, Gill has a chance to challenge Don Bradman’s 90-year-old record of 974 runs in a single series.
