Dallas Cowboys Player Reportedly Caught Driving 97 MPH
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and kick returner KaVontae Turpin found himself in hot water with police after being arrested over the weekend.
Turpin, 28, was booked for unlawfully carrying a gun and marijuana possession--two misdemeanors--in Collin County, Texas on Saturday night. The arrest occurred after the 2024 first-team All-Pro was pulled over for speeding, according to TMZ.
The latest reporting from TMZ Sports says Turpin was stopped just before midnight Saturday after being clocked going 97 mph in a 70 mph zone in his 2022 Dodge.
During the traffic stop, officers observed the unholstered 9 mm pistol and less than two ounces of weed, which led to Turpin's arrest. The two-time Pro Bowler posted a $1,500 bond Sunday and was released from Collin County Jail.
According to the New York Post, the drug misdemeanor is punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a fine up to $2,000.
Turpin, who went undrafted out of TCU in 2019, spent time in the Indoor Football League, European League of Football, Fan Controlled Football and USFL before catching on with the Cowboys in 2022.
He immediately carved out a role as a dangerous kick and punt returner as a rookie before getting more playing time on offense starting in 2023. Last season, Turpin set career-highs with 31 receptions for 420 yards and scored two receiving touchdowns while adding 904 kickoff return yards and a touchdown and another score via punt return.
The Cowboys rewarded Turpin with a new three-year, $18 million contract this offseason and are expecting him to remain a major part of the team's offense and special teams this coming season.
Of course, Dallas, which is now led by new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, was not expecting Turpin to find himself in legal trouble this summer, but unfortunately he did.
