Legendary 83-Year-Old Missouri Restaurant Closed 'Until Further Notice' After Fire
A Golden City, Missouri restaurant which debuted in 1942 is now closed "until further notice" following a fire.
On Sunday morning, Cooky's Cafe posted on Facebook that it had suffered a small blaze earlier that morning, resulting in water and smoke damage. Unfortunately, the eatery is shut down for the time being as repairs are made.
"We had a small fire at the restaurant this morning and due to water and smoke damage we will be closed until further notice," the post reads. "Everyone is fine, so no worries there.
"We appreciate you guys and we'll keep you updated as we figure things out! Have a blessed day!"
According to KOAM, the front door of Cooky's is currently boarded up. The restaurant has not indicated a possible timeline for reopening, but longtime customers have been sending their well-wishes on social media.
"Wishing the restaurant team all the best during this challenging time, thinking of you all. Hope you get to open up in the near future," one woman said.
"Prayers. Hope to see ya up & running soon. Glad everyone ok," another woman wrote.
"So sorry - Thankful everyone is fine. Hope you can reopen soon," a third woman added.
"I hate to hear this. Prayers that you all get things up and running smoothly in no time. Glad no one was hurt!" a fourth woman said.
"So sorry to hear this," a man added.
Cooky's is known for its homestyle cooking, which includes many classic diner staples and a variety of homemade pies.
The restaurant was founded by Cecil “Cooky” Ambler in 1942. Ambler owned the cafe until retiring 1984, at which time current owners Willie and Holly Stefan took it over.
