Arrest made in fatal Oakland weekend shooting
OAKLAND — Police said on Monday that investigators had arrested a man on suspicion that he shot a man to death early Saturday.
Police did not identify the person arrested. They said they took him into custody just after 7:30 p.m. on Sunday night.
The gunfire, which rang out about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, killed a 37-year-old man. Authorities in Alameda County did not identify him Monday morning, pending notification of the victim’s relatives.
Police said the shooting happened on a sidewalk in the 800 block of 41st Street, a residential area between Market and Lusk streets.
According to police, the man was outside his home of the sidewalk and got into a confrontation with another man. The gunfire followed, and the man died at the scene.
The shooter fled the scene before the police arrived. Police have not said whether the shooter and the victim knew each other or what prompted the two to confront each other.
The killing was the 38th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. A year ago at this time, police had investigated 50 homicides.
