Averill Park CSD announces new district mascot

AVERILL PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Averill Park Central School District officials announced the selection of the new district mascot on July 1. The district said the new identity was a continued effort to fall in line with the New York State mandate for schools that have nicknames, mascots, and logos historically associated with Native Americans.

Formerly known as the Warriors, the school district transitioned to being the Golden Knights on July 1. High school students spent a year working on finding a new mascot while also gathering public input on the new identity.

Students also spent a year working with an outside vendor to design the new mascot. The final mascot survey was sent out to the Averill Park community in May 2024, announcing that the former mascot's name would be dissolved in June 2023.
