Amazon Announces Major Change for Prime Day
Amazon Prime Day is always a huge event, and this year, it's going to be difference than it's been in past years. Prime Day dates back to July 15, 2015, and was first delivered as a way to celebrate Prime members on Amazon's 20th birthday, according to Amazon. It's so wild to think that Prime Day has only been around about a decade, because it's difficult to imagine a world without Prime Day now.
Before we get to the change, one thing that hasn't changed is that the day will let Prime members find the top deals of the summer and enjoy deep discounts across more than 35 categories. Amazon adds that Prime Day "continues to grow and bring new innovations to customers."
"Ever since its inception, Amazon has scaled Prime Day to record-breaking heights," notes NBC News. "The event brings in billions of dollars in global sales and drives up e-commerce activity across retailers."
Prime Day is historic this year, because it marks a first. The change is a good thing for shoppers who need more time to get in on their deals.
This year marks the longest event ever, running four days, July 8 through July 11, instead of two. This marks the first year shoppers will have that full four days to get in on deals.
"One of the factors that makes Prime Day so unique is that it's an event Amazon manufactured, unlike Black Friday and Cyber Monday, both of which are tied to the holiday shopping season," NBC News notes.
In 2024, Prime Day took place on July 16 and 17 in 24 countries. Back in 2015, the first year Prime Day took place, the event only ran one day and was available in nine counties, so it's come a long way.
So, those who are worried about not having enough time to get in on the best deals of the season, rest easy that this year, Prime Day is going twice as long as it has in the past few seasons.
