A Better Climate for Christians Under Trump After Biden’s Anti-Christian Agenda

The political climate for Christians in America has dramatically improved under President Trump compared to the hostile environment they faced during the Biden administration. After four years of systematic targeting, discrimination, and outright persecution of Christian Americans, the Trump administration has moved swiftly to restore religious freedom and end anti-Christian bias in government.
The Biden years marked one of the most sustained attacks on Christian Americans in modern history. From the highest levels of government to military installations, Christians were targeted for their faith in unprecedented ways. One of the most egregious examples was the FBI’s targeting of traditional Catholics. A now-infamous memo from the Richmond field office, dated January 2023, advised developing sources within Catholic churches as “threat mitigation” and labeled “radical-traditionalist Catholics” as potential domestic terrorists. The memo was shared with over 1,000 FBI employees across multiple field offices. Senate investigations later revealed anti-Catholic language in at least 13 FBI documents, exposing the scope of the bias.
Biden also became the first president since 1952 to omit the word “God” from his National Day of Prayer proclamation in 2021. While presidents like Obama and Trump referenced God repeatedly, Biden mentioned only “many religions and belief systems” and “the power of prayer,” deliberately omitting Christianity from the nation’s spiritual foundation.
The Biden DOJ charged nearly two dozen peaceful pro-life Christians for praying and demonstrating outside abortion clinics, resulting in multi-year prison sentences. Among those convicted were a Catholic priest, a 75-year-old grandmother, and an 87-year-old woman.
Biden’s support for the Equality Act would have overridden the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, forcing Christian institutions to violate their beliefs on marriage, sexuality, and gender. While Christians welcome all people, they uphold biblical teachings that define certain behaviors as sinful. The Equality Act would have stripped them of policies based on biological sex, banned teaching against homosexual or transgender behavior, and required acceptance of same-sex relationships. Though the bill didn’t pass, Biden’s support revealed his intent to use federal power against Christian values. Unlike Trump, who restored religious exemptions, Biden worked to eliminate them, leaving Christians without protection for conscience rights.
The Biden administration also used COVID vaccine mandates to target and purge Christian service members. Multiple Marines described it as “a political purge,” removing some of the most committed and principled troops. At the same time, military training materials portrayed Christians as potential extremists, claiming “Christian extremism is often conflated with white supremacy.” Many Christians were discharged for refusing the vaccine on religious grounds.
Upon returning to office, President Trump immediately reversed these policies. On January 27, 2025, he signed an executive order reinstating all service members discharged for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine. The order restored rank, back pay, and benefits, and offered those who resigned under pressure a chance to rejoin. Trump also eliminated radical “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI) initiatives from the military and reversed Biden-era gender ideology policies, part of a broader effort to depoliticize the armed forces and restore religious liberty.
During Holy Week 2023, the Biden administration sent a “cease and desist” letter to Catholic clergy at Walter Reed Military Medical Center, barring them from offering pastoral care just days before Easter. The contract for Catholic ministry was given to a secular contractor with no ability to offer sacraments, sparking outrage from the Archdiocese and Catholic leaders nationwide. Then in 2024, Biden proclaimed March 31, Easter Sunday, as Transgender Day of Visibility. His proclamation urged Americans to “lift up” transgender voices on the same day Christians celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a move many saw as antagonistic toward Christian beliefs.
In contrast, Easter 2025 saw President Trump reaffirm his commitment to restoring Christianity in American life. He and First Lady Melania hosted an Easter prayer service and dinner at the White House, joined by Christian leaders including Franklin Graham and Alveda King. Trump declared “He is Risen!” and emphasized protecting Christian faith in schools, the military, and public institutions. Leading up to Easter, he had already reestablished the White House Faith Office, launched a Religious Liberty Commission, and signed an executive order creating a federal task force to combat anti-Christian bias in government.
Biden also promoted transgender military service with taxpayer-funded “gender transitions” and issued a memorandum directing U.S. agencies worldwide to promote LGBTQ rights globally, placing America at the forefront of advancing transgender ideology.
President Trump reversed these policies. In January 2025, he signed an executive order redefining “sex” in federal law strictly as biological male or female, eliminating recognition of gender identity across government. He also banned transgender individuals from military service, citing concerns over unit cohesion, deployability, and medical readiness, particularly due to their dependence on prescription drugs like hormone therapy. Additionally, Trump revoked Biden’s directive requiring U.S. embassies and foreign aid programs to promote LGBTQ rights globally. The Trump administration cut U.S. AID funding for transgender advocacy overseas, redirecting those resources toward religious freedom and pro-family initiatives. These actions marked a decisive shift toward restoring biological definitions and protecting traditional values in federal policy.
