Karen Khachanov's Wife Sent Strong Message After Their First Meeting
On Tuesday, July 8, American tennis star Taylor Fritz is set to face off against Russian star Karen Khachanov with a spot in the semifinal of Wimbledon on the line.
Fritz punched his ticket to the quarterfinal by defeating Jordan Thompson, who retired from the match after just over 40 minutes. "It's obviously not the way that I want to go through," Fritz said. "It's just sad. ... Respect to him for coming out. His body's not right."
Khachanov, meanwhile, earned his spot in the Round of 8 by beating Kamil Majchrzak 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 earlier Sunday. "To be honest, today was a really great performance - at least from my side," Khachanov said after finishing with more than twice as many winners as unforced errors (44-21).
Khachanov has been a Grand Slam semifinalist twice, at the US Open in 2022 and the Australian Open in 2023, but hasn't reached a quarterfinal since the 2023 French Open. As he gets set to take the court for another match, his marriage with Veronika Shkliaeva is taking center stage.
While she doesn't have a social media account, the tennis star has offered a small glimpse into their lives together. "Rome is always a good idea ❤️ Until next time! Grazie ????????," he said in the caption of the post showing a carousel of photos of his wife and their two children.

In a previous interview, Khachanov's wife revealed her true first thoughts about her future husband.
“I have known Veronika since I was eight years old, but I didn't make a good first impression. We met at the airport. I was playing with a baggage cart and hit her. She told her mother: 'What an idiot!'" he said.
Fritz and Khachanov are set to face off at 8 a.m. ET on ESPN2.
