Study Names Most Unhealthy Fast Food Restaurant
When you think of the most popular restaurants in fast food, none of them can be characterized as healthy eating options overall.
Sure, there are some that have menu items that are at least somewhat healthy, but the amount of those items pales in comparison to the unhealthy ones.
But are there fast food restaurants that can be considered more unhealthy than others based on their respective menu items?
Well, World Atlas' Nour Berjawi tried to figure that out by taking a look at different fast food restaurants and ranking them based on their having menu items and meals that can eat up a large chunk of, or even completely surpass, daily recommended limits in one sitting.
Coming in as the most unhealthy fast food restaurant of the 10 listed was Wendy's, with their ranking coming at least in part due to the Triple Baconator meal with large fries and a medium frosty.
Berjawi notes that the Wendy's combo has 2,160 calories, 54 grams of saturated fat and 3,400 milligrams of sodium. Also, the limited-time Pretzel Bacon Pub Triple is more than 1,500 calories alone.
According to WebMD, the daily recommended limit for calories for adults is anywhere between 1,600 and 3,000, depending on whether you're a male or female and how active you are.
According to the American Heart Association, the daily recommended limit for sodium is 2,300 milligrams. For saturated fats, it's approximately 13 grams for someone who takes in 2,000 calories.
The other restaurants making the top 10, from No. 2 to No. 10, were as follows: Sonic, Taco Bell, Dairy Queen, KFC, Quiznos, McDonald's, Smashburger, Little Caesars and Chick-fil-A.
