Study Names Superfood You Should Be Eating More
Fruits and vegetables have plenty of benefits. Berries and citrus fruits, such as grapefruit, are a few examples of common fruits that are superfoods.
But, there is one fruit that is emerging with plenty of benefits: Cantaloupe.
Hope Brandt, a dietitian, spoke with USA TODAY about the many benefits, and said it is a good choice for "those looking to eat more hydrating foods, eat more anti-inflammatory foods (and) eat foods that are nutrient dense."
Monica D’Agostino, another dietitian, elaborated on the benefits of cantaloupe, saying that beta-carotene is one of the most common benefits of the fruit.
This helps to promote "eye health, assisting the body in blood cell production and immune response (and) acting as an antioxidant to help fight free radicals," D'Agostino said.
Cantaloupe is a part of the melon family and includes antioxidants, potassium and fiber, making it very beneficial.
While fruits and vegetables are a recommended part of your daily diet, cantaloupe is one that helps fill a lot of daily needs.
According to WebMD, one serving exceeds the daily dose of vitamin A while containing 6% of the daily fiber need for your body.
It is also almost enough to satisfy the requirements for the family amount of vitamin C, so there are plenty of reasons to eat cantaloupe.
With summer here, that also means cantaloupe season is here, with the season running from May until October.
