Abortion Facility Wins Award for Killing Babies
Blue Mountain Clinic is a Montana abortion facility that commits abortions up to 21 weeks. In a May 6, 2025, fundraising email, their executive director, Tess Fields, said Blue Mountain had won the “Dr. George Tiller Award” from the National Abortion Federation.
Fields describes this as “one of the highest honors in our field.” The email calls Tiller “a beacon of care, dignity, and courage.”
From the email:
The facility also tried to use the award as a tool for fundraising, urging people to donate:
Did you miss your chance to donate? Been traveling? Still planning to mail a check? Don’t wait…
Your donation today fuels patient-centered care without stigma. It ensures that no matter what happens in Washington, Montanans, and those traveling from across the country for our services will always have access to the quality reproductive care they deserve.

A Lawsuit; a Painful, Botched Abortion; and a Cockroach
In a previous article, I discussed a lawsuit against Blue Mountain, in which a woman who had an HIV-infected partner went to the facility considering an abortion.
The woman herself had tested negative for HIV but was told that because the baby’s father was infected, her preborn child would develop AIDS and die within a few years. This is, of course, not how HIV transmission works, and after her abortion, the woman discovered the truth and sued Blue Mountain.
Reviews of Blue Mountain reveal some disturbing things. While the facility has some good reviews, one woman wrote about her botched abortion.
She called the staff at Blue Mountain “the most horrible people ever” and called the abortion “the most traumatic thing of my entire life”:
I got an abortion here January 12 anyway the abortion really hurt. Which I knew it was going to, but they told me they were going to give me something strong for the pain, but They didn’t give me anything that made it not so painful during the procedure and then after a couple days I started cramping really bad and I thought it was just my period well it wasn’t.
It was a really bad infection in my down there area Well, anyway, it went away and then I got another one.
well, I got a call from the doctor today telling me that the infection came from the abortion, so not only did I have to go through the most traumatic thing of my entire life I have an infection now because of it so if I were you, I would not go here.
They are the most horrible people ever and even when I wanted to stop because they told me whenever I felt pain, we could stop for a little bit they wouldn’t let me…
I tried to call them weeks ago and talk to them and see if something went wrong and they never responded my calls back, so again, I am forewarning you guys not to go here, do your research before you pick this awful place.
Another reviewer wrote:
Sounded like some poor lady was in agony in one of the other rooms for at least 30 mins and we saw a bug I’m 90% was a cockroach.
Does this sound like “the cream of the crop” when it comes to abortion clinics? If so, the abortion industry is facing some major problems.
Who Was Dr. George Tiller, and What Was He Like?
Dr. George Tiller specialized in third-trimester abortions. He became a martyr when he was assassinated by an anti-abortion zealot who violated the most basic tenet of the pro-life movement by appointing himself judge, jury, and executioner over another human being.
The assassin’s immoral act turned people away from the pro-life cause, invigorated pro-abortion activists, and, if anything, may have led to more babies dying in the long run.
Tiller is now a martyr and a hero to many.
But while Tiller was practicing, some women (and teens) who had abortions at his facility spoke out about the negative experiences they had. You can find some stories here.
Because of limited room, I will just share one story. I encourage you, when you have time, to read more.
Patient A’s Story
The woman, identified only as “Patient A,” said to Operation Rescue, “I’m glad you’re getting the word out about how horrible a man [Tiller] is.”
She had her abortion in 2002. At the time, she was married and had just given birth to her third child when she became pregnant again. She would have had two children under a year old, and she and her husband thought that would be too difficult to manage.
There were delays arranging the abortion, and by the time Patient A came to Tiller’s facility, she was 26 weeks pregnant.
On the first day, Tiller’s staff did a sonogram. Patient A says she wasn’t allowed to see the screen.
After the sonogram, Tiller or a staff member inserted laminaria sticks into Patient A’s cervix. (The cervix is the muscle at the bottom of the womb.) Laminaria sticks slowly open the cervix over hours or days, so that the abortionist’s instruments can more easily reach the baby.
Patient A describes the placing of the laminaria as “the worst pain I have EVER to this day had in my life!!” This came from someone who had already delivered three children and thus had experienced labor several times.
Patient A was then told to go back to her hotel room and return to the facility at 10 AM the next morning. At 7 AM, she woke up in full-blown labor. She says she was having contractions like those she had with her other three children, and had the urge to push.
Tiller’s facility had a 24-hour emergency number, but when her husband called, no one answered. After repeated phone calls, he finally got hold of a nurse. The nurse blamed Patient A and her husband, telling them she was supposed to have been at the facility at 6 AM that morning.
However, Patient A maintains that she was told 10 AM, and the paperwork she was given also said 10 AM.
When Patient A got to Dr. Tiller’s facility, she says:
[T]hey didn’t seem to even care that I was in so much pain. They took their time getting my IV in my arm and finally got me some pain medicine.
She recalls that five other women were lying in the small room. These women had already had their abortions. The women were all very heavily drugged. She says, “They all literally looked like zombies just lying there. It was creepy.”
Dr. Tiller refused to allow Patient A’s husband to accompany her into the operating room.
Patient A says:
Finally, it was my turn. I was taken in and given a drug to almost knock me out. It’s one where they Say you don’t remember things, but I do.
I can remember him half-delivering my baby, jabbing the scissors into his head and killing him, then just kind of throwing him to the side and finishing up.
Was this a drug-induced hallucination, or did Dr. Tiller really kill a baby who was born alive? We may never know unless another witness comes forward.
If Tiller did murder this child with scissors, it’s been done before. Abortionist Kermit Gosnell delivered full-term babies in his facility and killed them by snipping their spinal cords with scissors. Although he was charged with only a few of these deaths, he may have killed hundreds or more babies that way.
There were also allegations against another third-trimester abortionist, Dr. Shelley Sella.
At 26 weeks, Patient A’s baby would have survived if born alive and not directly killed.
Patient A says that when she left the operating room, she left it alone—“They don’t escort you out or anything.”
She also says she could barely walk.
She met her husband, who “was out front freaking out, knowing I was back there, and of course they wouldn’t let him see me, didn’t answer his questions, or anything.”
Since the abortion, Patient A has had all kinds of health problems. She says:
The worst part of this ordeal is that ever since having this done, I have had NOTHING but problems with my female parts, I have had cervical dysplasia, which is bad cells in your cervix that have required many painful treatments to try to treat.
I have pain with sex, which never happened before, and just have general hard core [sic] cramping on a daily basis.
Patient A takes responsibility for her abortion, admitting she chose it. But, she says:
… I was told it wouldn’t be a bad experience. It would be something that would be easy for me to do. But it’s been nothing but trouble since the day I had it done.
She wasn’t the only woman to have a bad experience at Dr. Tiller’s late-term abortion facility.
So, in retrospect, perhaps Blue Mountain Clinic is a worthy recipient of the “George Tiller Award” after all.
