Man dies in state trooper shooting incident in Putney
PUTNEY, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - Vermont State Police said Monday that a man died after being shot by a state trooper.
The shooting occurred about 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Putney Landing Apartments at 23 Neumann Lane. Police were on the scene after a neighbor called with concerns about his neighbor's behavior.
State troopers then obtained an arrest warrant for a man living at the apartments, and under circumstances that remain "under active investigation," a trooper fired his service weapon. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The trooper was not injured. Further information is not available at this time. The name of the trooper involved will not be released for 24 hours following the incident, while the name of the deceased man will be withheld until his relatives have been contacted.
