McDonald's Newest Breakfast Menu Item Launches Today, July 8
Earlier this month McDonald's ended its partnership with Krispy Kreme, officially removing the iconic doughnut chain's products from its stores on July 2.
“We were excited and pleased to partner with Krispy Kreme,” Alyssa Buetikofer, McDonald’s USA’s Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer said in a statement at the time. “We had strong collaboration with Krispy Kreme and they delivered a great, high-quality product for us, and while the partnership met our expectations for McDonald’s and Owner/Operators, this needed to be a profitable business model for Krispy Kreme as well.”
Less than a week later, though, McDonald's is introducing a new breakfast menu item to replace its failed partnership with Krispy Kreme. It's a fresh take on an old classic - the McMuffin.
This time around, though, McDonald's is going spicy.
"This limited-time glow-up includes everything you already love about the iconic Egg McMuffin —melty cheese, a freshly cracked egg (now sourced 100% cage-free in the U.S.), Canadian bacon and a perfectly toasted and buttered English Muffin—plus a fiery, delicious twist: a shot of McDonald’s signature Spicy Pepper Sauce. Fans can also enjoy the Spicy Sausage McMuffin and the Spicy Sausage McMuffin with Egg," a release from the fast food chain said.
The spicy sausage McMuffin with egg is 530 calories with 37 grams of fat, 31 grams of carbohydrates and 20 grams of protein - without egg the breakfast sandwich is 460 calories with 31 grams of fat, 30 grams of carbohydrates and 14 grams of protein.
Meanwhile, the spicy egg McMuffin with Canadian bacon is just 360 calories with 19 grams of fat, 30 grams of carbohydrates and 17 grams of protein.
All three products are now available at select McDonald's across the country.
