Walmart Has Recalled 850,000 of Popular Item
Walmart has issued a new recall of more than 800,000 water bottles because of an injury hazard.
In a notice published by the Consumer Product Safety Commission Thursday, Walmart recalled 850,000 Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles. The stainless-steel bottles are silver with a black one-piece screwcap lid, an Ozark Trail logo on the side and the model number 83-662 on product packaging.
The reason for the notice a safety concern regarding the lid, which has proved dangerous to multiple people
"The lid can forcefully eject, posing serious impact and laceration hazards, when a consumer attempts to open the capped bottles after food, carbonated beverages or perishable beverages, such as juice or milk, are stored inside over time," said the recall.
According to the recall, Walmart has received complaints about three incidents in which consumers were injured after being struck in the face by an ejected lid. Two of the people sustained permanent vision loss after being hit in the eye.
"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled water bottles and contact Walmart for a full refund," the notice says. "Consumers can bring the bottle to their nearest Walmart store for a refund."
The China-made products have been sold online and at Walmart stores nationwide since since 2017 and cost roughly $15.
Obviously, the fact two people have been blinded by these items is a major problem for both Walmart and the manufacturer. We'd urge anyone who thinks they may have purchased one of these bottles to take a look before using them, even if they have before, and return them if necessary.
