Now, a beloved restaurant that had been serving its community for 15 years is abruptly closing its doors. But, the owners are also thanking their clientele and staff for their many years of dedication.
A sushi restaurant in Grand Rapids, MI, has officially closed. Sushi Kuni recently announced on its official website that it would be closing its doors for good come the end of last month.
"After 15 amazing years, Sushi Kuni will be closing its doors at the end of June 2025," they stated in the heartfelt post. "This decision comes with deep gratitude for the incredible journey we’ve shared with all of you."
The post, which is from the "Sushi Kuni Family," adds that they opened Sushi Kuni in 2010 for their family and relatives and "had no idea the sheer amount of kind and genuine people we would meet here in Grand Rapids. You all are the reason we were blessed to be in business for many years and worth every hot summer and crazy dinner rush services."
Head sushi chef and co-owner Sunghoon Choi is retiring, according to a report from Crain's Grand Rapids Business, which initially reported the news.
The restaurant's post added that during their time serving the community, they were able to participate in "so many of your lives and are honored that you trusted us to celebrate with you all."
The post also thanked staff "for working together" and said that "every single person is a reason Sushi Kuni was a place people chose to revisit year after year."
They added that even though Sushi Kuni is officially closing, the staff is "excited to share that the space will soon welcome a new chapter under new ownership 'HaluDam' a full service Korean restaurant."
