SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A mandatory quarantine has been lifted for a group of horses who were previously stabled at Barn 66 at Saratoga Race Course, the New York Racing Association announced on Sunday.
The barn was placed under quarantine on June 25 after 2-year-old filly Tenacious Child tested positive for strangles, a contagious bacterial infection that affects a horse's respiratory system. The stabled horses were relocated to Aqueduct Racetrack for the duration of the quarantine.
Barns 60 and 63 had also been placed under a precautionary quarantine on June 21 after Tenacious Child was tested for potential illnesses. That quarantine was lifted on June 28.
Two horses -- 2-year-old Tranquil Sea, who had tested positive for strangles in May, and 2-year-old gelding Mo Curls -- remain quarantined at a private facility. They will be allowed to return to New York Racing Association property once they show a negative PCR test for strangles.
The Saratoga Race Course summer meet kicked off on Thursday and continues through September 1. You can stay up to date with all things related to the track on the NEWS10 website.
