Officer shoots man in attempted stabbing on Long Island: SCPD
SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. (PIX11) – Police were involved in a shooting on Long Island, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
The shooting happened just after 8:30 a.m. Sunday in Centereach, police said.
Police responded to the scene of a reported disturbance involving a weapon and found a 44-year-old man with a stab wound to his neck.
As the victim was being treated, a man appeared out of the woods holding a knife over his head and lunged at the victim with the knife while yelling, according to police.
An officer fired his gun at the man, who has been identified as 29-year-old Emilson Yoan Ordonez-Vanegaz, striking him. Ordonez-Vanegaz was pronounced dead at a local hospital sometime after, police said.
Two officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment of tinnitus, according to police.
Police said the New York State Attorney General's Office was notified of the incident.
