Pakistani Police Detain 14 Suspects, Including Tribal Leader, in Shocking Balochistan Honor Killing Case
Pakistani police arrested 14 people, including a tribal leader, after a couple was killed in an alleged honor killing in Balochistan province.
Fourteen people, including a tribal leader, have been arrested in Balochistan, Pakistan, in connection with the honor killing of a couple. The arrests follow the circulation of a disturbing video showing the moment a woman was shot, which sparked widespread outrage on social media.
Balochistan police chief Moazzam Jah Ansari confirmed that the woman was killed by her brother, who allegedly acted on behalf of the family and tribe. The murder, authorities say, was carried out as an act of so-called “honor” in response to the couple’s relationship.
According to Sarfraz Bugti, Chief Minister of Balochistan, all suspects, including the tribal leader, are now in custody and will face legal prosecution. The leader, identified as Sher Baz, is accused of ordering the killing, though it remains unclear whether the woman’s brother is among those arrested.
The video of the killing has gone viral, triggering shock and condemnation from civil society, activists, and the general public. Many have called for justice and stricter enforcement of laws against honor-based violence.
Honor killings remain a pressing issue in parts of Pakistan, particularly in tribal regions where traditional customs often override national laws.
Human rights groups are urging the government to ensure a transparent investigation and swift justice in this case to set a precedent against such brutal practices.
