Jets Quarterback Justin Fields Injured During Training Camp
Training camp was cut short on July 24 for New York Jets quarterback Jason Fields.
The 26-year-old was taken off the practice field on the second day of camp with an apparent lower leg injury.
Fields went down, sat on the ground briefly and limped off the field with the assistance of a trainer, according to ESPN.
He spent a few minutes in the injury tent before a cart arrived and took him from the field to the locker room, according to ESPN.
It wasn’t clear how the injury occurred in the Jets’ second practice of training camp. The team had no immediate word on Fields’ condition or the nature of the injury, according to the Associated Press.
Fields, who signed a two-year, $40 million contract as a free agent in March is the Jets' undisputed starter.
According to the team reports, he played 90 minutes at camp on July 23 with wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
"First couple of practices, he's dunking on dudes' heads. Crazy," Fields said in the report. "It was kind of [like] the one we had today, a left-side go ball and he just jumped and [Randy] Mossed a dude. Right then and there, I knew he was different. Right out of the gate, he was making plays and of course ever since then he's been doing that."
The New York Jets' training camp started on July 22.
The first public practice is scheduled for July 25, according to the New York Jets.
The camp is being held at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in Florham Park, N.J.
