Star Wars-Style Flying Airbike Is About to Hit the Market After Going Viral. Here's How Much It Costs.
An airbike that went viral in May for resembling a Star Wars speeder bike is now going on sale commercially. The futuristic vehicle caused controversy when many Internet users called it fake, saying the video was AI-generated. But the Polish company Volonaut confirmed the airbike's validity. They are producing limited numbers, with an initial price of $880,000.
Volonaut released new flight footage with original audio to prove the vehicle is real. The one-person bike can fly at speeds of 124 miles per hour.
"Although the original release went viral, it also managed to divide opinions and stir the internet. Many claimed this hoverbike is not real and that the footage has been produced with use of AI or CGI. It is not hard to imagine why — the futuristic vehicle seems to not obey the laws of physics with no visible means of generating lift or maintaining unprecedented stability with its rider on top of it," said Polish inventor and Volonaut founder Tomasz Patan.
How does Volonaut's airbike work?
With no spinning propellers, the bike is powered by jet propulsion. The automatic hover is enhanced by a flight computer. Simultaneously, the airbike is seven times lighter than a traditional motorcycle, credited to carbon fiber materials and 3D printing methods.
“Volonaut is confirming the authenticity of all officially released video materials saying that a real, fully functional and flying prototype vehicle has been piloted by the inventor with zero use of special effects, AI or computer generated imagery," said Patan. "It was always my dream to create a personal flying machine so futuristic and iconic that it could be placed on a science fiction movie set."
