Deadly Terror Attack in Iran Leaves at Least 23 Dead or Injured
Iranian authorities confirmed a terror attack caused at least 23 casualties, with several killed and many others injured, sparking heightened security measures nationwide.
Iranian media have reported that armed members of the Jaish al-Adl group attacked the courthouse building in Zahedan, located in the Sistan and Baluchestan province.
According to Tasnim News Agency, the terrorist assault left five people dead, including a mother and her one-year-old child, and injured thirteen others among the public and visitors.
During the confrontation, three gunmen wearing suicide vests were killed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) ground forces, preventing further casualties and damage.
State broadcaster IRIB reported that rescue teams transported the injured to medical facilities, while security forces safely evacuated staff and visitors from the courthouse premises.
Jaish al-Adl claimed responsibility for the attack. Iranian authorities condemned the incident as “cowardly,” assuring the public that the situation is now under control.
The province of Sistan and Baluchestan has long faced higher levels of unrest compared to other parts of Iran, with several anti-government armed groups active in the region.
Security analysts warn that the attack highlights ongoing threats to state institutions in volatile border provinces, emphasizing the need for stronger counterterrorism measures and improved local intelligence efforts.
Officials and observers alike have urged for a coordinated response, combining swift security operations with long-term socio-economic initiatives, to address the underlying issues fueling extremism in the region.
