Sun, clouds in mix for Portland area this weekend
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A cooler start to the final weekend of July will undergo a warming trend as a mix of sun and clouds remains over western Oregon and southwest Washington.
Early morning clouds will slowly break apart by the afternoon and evening hours across the Portland/Vancouver area on Saturday. The decrease in afternoon clouds will allow temperatures to warm into the low 80s along the Willamette Valley. Sunshine will get underway earlier in the day for residents along the south valley.
Those traveling up in elevation or towards the coast can expect slightly cooler conditions. This weekend's cooling trend is due to a trough moving towards the Pacific Northwest. Clouds will remain along the Oregon coast for much of the weekend with highs in the low 60s.
Sunscreen is a must for those traveling towards the Cascades. More sunshine will be present above 2,000.' That's where temperatures will remain in the 60s to low 80s, depending on the elevation.
Summer heat is expected to build by the middle of next week. A ridge of high pressure starts to take over the western half of the country. That's where Portland area temperatures will warm into the low 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday. August is expected to start off slightly cooler and cloudier come Friday.
