'Happy Gilmore 2' Featured a Special Cameron Boyce Cameo You May Have Missed
Happy Gilmore 2 is filled with celebrity cameos, but one is so subtle that many fans may have missed it. Turns out, it was the most poignant nod of all.
In a scene early in the Netflix sequel, Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore character is seen at a check-in booth at a golf course. In the booth, two workers are watching an old episode of the Disney Channel sitcom Jessie, which starred late actor Cameron Boyce as Luke Ross. Boyce’s face can be seen briefly on a small TV screen in the lower right corner of the Happy Gilmore 2 scene.
Sandler played Boyce’s father, Lenny Feder, in the 2010 comedy film Grown Ups and in the 2103 sequel Grown Ups 2. Sandler also made a guest appearance on Boyce's show Jessie in 2013.
Boyce died suddenly in July 2019 after suffering an epileptic seizure at age 20.
During a 2020 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sandler remembered Boyce as a “great kid” and a wonderful actor.
“He was a little kid in Grown Ups,” Sandler said. “I watched him become a superstar. My kids worshiped him. He came to my daughter’s bat mitzvah. He came and literally signed, there were 400 kids there, and he signed all the kids autographs. He would always have these charity things going on. He would bug me, for charity stuff. Never cared about anything else. Just a nice, solid, talented kid.”
Six years after Boyce’s death, eagle-eyed fans who noticed the subtle Happy Gilmore 2 tribute took to social media to praise Sandler for including the beloved actor in the scene.
“Adam Sandler honoring Cameron Boyce in Happy Gilmore 2 melts my heart,” one fan wrote on X.
“The subtle nod to Cameron Boyce in Happy Gilmore 2 got me in my feelings- rip Cameron. Adam Sandler is a real one,” another wrote.
In addition to the special nod to Boyce, Happy Gilmore 2 featured cameos by Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce, Eminem, Post Malone, Guy Fieri, and even Jeopardy host Ken Jennings.
