MLB Player Busts Out Happy Gilmore Swing in Orioles-Rockies Game
With Happy Gilmore 2 arriving on Netflix on Friday, Baltimore Orioles catcher Alex Jackson did his best impression of the beloved movie character played by Adam Sandler.
One of the fictional golfer's many unique traits is his swing. In the movies, Gilmore infamously takes a few steps before unloading on the ball, which leads to absolutely electric long-distance drives.
Whether intentionally or not, Jackson busted out the Gilmore swing on Saturday night against the Colorado Rockies with Baltimore up by the football equivalent of two touchdowns (with extra points) and a field goal (17-0)
The beatdown was so bad that the Rockies put position player Kyle Farmer on the mound to close out the game. That's when Jackson unloaded on a 47 mph pitch to make it 18-0.

To be fair to Jackson, he probably needed to get a head of steam to make solid contact, as Farmer was throwing at a speed Little League players can hit.
The reactions to Jackson's swing were mixed. Some got a kick out of it, while others weren't happy with his move in a 17-0 game.
"Pretty genius move to account for the massive dip in pitch speed from position player pitching," one reply pointed out.
"Alex has no class," another fan said. "(You're) up big, no need to add on."
Other fans are fed up with watching position players take the mound in general.
"This is so embarrassing," one comment said. "Dude up there lobbing the ball in looking like he's playing in a church softball league."
"What an embarrassment to the game. This is a joke," another frustrated fan said.
This is just a microcosm of the embarrassing season the Rockies have had. With a 27-77 record heading into Sunday, Colorado is a whopping 11 wins behind the team with the next-worst record.
Meanwhile, Jackson is off to a good start in Baltimore, with three homers and four RBI in 12 games.
