2025 Sardis 7’s – Tournament Report
The annual Sardis 7s tournament was back bigger and better than ever in 2025 with an U15s leg added to the schedule over the three days. It all started on Friday 25th and ended on Sunday 27th July and once again Sardis Road witnessed another three days of brilliant 7s rugby action…
The Senior Leg of the Sardis 7s – Saturday 26th July
On Saturday 26th July, as has been customary in previous years, a mixture of local clubs and invitational sides came together to take part in the Senior Leg of the tournament. The results in the pool stage were as follows –
- High Motive Commandos 12-12 Pencoed
- St Peters 7-17 Sniper 7s
- Durbins Devils 19-0 St Albans
- Mountain Ash 5-12 Llantwit Fardre
- Bargoed Warriors 5-14 Pencoed
- St Peters 12-5 Cynon Crusaders
- Durbins Devils 10-5 High Motive Commandos
- Llantwit Fardre 0-24 Sniper 7s
- Bargoed Warriors 10-0 St Albans
- Pencoed 12-0 Durbins Devils
- Cynon Crusaders 19-0 Mountain Ash
- Bargoed Warriors 5-14 High Motive Commandos
- Llantwit Fardre 0-22 St Peters
- Sniper 7s 5-5 Cynon Crusaders
- Durbins Devils 7-12 Bargoed Warriors
- High Motive Commandos 22-0 St Albans
- Mountain Ash 14-21 St Peters
- Cynon Crusaders 29-0 Llantwit Fardre
- Pencoed 7-5 St Albans
- Sniper 7s 28-0 Mountain Ash
The sides then went into the semi finals based on their positions from the two pools, and after the tense semis played out the following sides then contested/triumphed in each final:
Bowl Final – Bargoed Warriors beat St Albans
Plate Final – Cynon Crusaders beat Llantwit Fardre
Cup Final – Sniper 7s beat St Peters
The quality of rugby on show was fantastic, congratulations to the three sides who took home the silverware.
The Youth Leg of the Sardis 7s – Friday 25th July
The Youth Leg of the tournament got the weekend’s action started on Friday 25th July and every single side did their themselves and their respective clubs proud.
The winners in each competition: Bowl Winners – Llantwit Fardre Youth, Plate Winners – Newport HSOB Youth and Carmarthen Warriors were crowned 2024 Youth Cup Champions.
The U15s and U16s Legs of the Sardis 7s – Sunday 27th July
Finally, to finish off the weekend’s entertainment on Sunday 27th there were two age grade categories, the U15s and then the U16s Tournament. The U15s Leg got the day’s action underway in the morning, and the winners in each competition were: Bowl Winners – Rumney U15s, Plate Winners – St Albans U15s and Pontypridd U15s were crowned 2025 U15s Cup Champions.
Then to conclude both the day and the three day tournament the U16s Leg got the afternoon’s action underway, and what an afternoon it was! Some of the skills on show were outstanding and as a result the entertainment was top drawer. The winning teams in each category were as follows: Bowl Winners – Maesteg Celtic U16s, Plate Winners – Pontypridd U16s and Pontyclun U16s were crowned the 2025 U16s Cup Champions.
We would also like to thank all the officials (pictured below) who presided over all the matches during the three days – without them we would not have a sport to watch and enjoy.
To conclude, the tournament organisers would like to place on record their thanks to all the teams that took part over the weekend – every single one played their part in making it such an entertaining three days of rugby and all contributed to making the 2025 Sardis 7s a huge success – the biggest and best Sardis 7s to date!
