Lake George holds vigil for Melina Frattolin
LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (NEWS10) A community in mourning came together in Lake George Sunday night to honor the life of 9-year-old Melina Frattolin in a candlelight vigil at Shepard Park.
Organized by the Lake George Volunteer Fire Department and its Auxiliary, the vigil gave the community space to grieve.
The community was given the chance to speak about the emotions that this tragedy has brought them. Candles were passed out during the ceremony and blown out after a moment of silence.
Pastor Tiffany Lewis of the Lake George Community Methodist Church asked those attending to say out loud how this tragedy has affected them. “We came together, unified our humanity together, and we named our fears, we named our emotions. We were vulnerable. We were transparent. We took time out of our day to show that we care, and we are unified together. That does a lot in a community.”
As the candles were blown out, the community held their loved ones a little tighter this evening. Those who attended tonight’s vigil may have never met Melina, but they gathered tonight to make sure that she is never forgotten.
