That's according to the New York Post, which cited law enforcement sources. Authorities have not yet formally named the gunman, who was pictured in a widely published photo toting a rifle and calmly walking down the sidewalk wearing a suit and tie.
CNN named the suspect as Shane Devon Tamura.
According to CNN, he was a youth football player who once lived in Hawaii (before moving to Las Vegas) and who had an expired private investigator's license. He worked security for a Las Vegas casino, the Post reported.
According to the Post, the gunman shot and killed a New York police officer and at least four other people in a high-end Manhattan skyscraper that houses the offices of the National Football League and a company called Blackstone. The suspect shot two officers, according to Fox News. The slain officer was identified as married father Didarul Islam by the Post.
The suspect opened fire in the lobby of a company called Blackstone inside the skyscraper along the legendary Park Avenue on July 28. A second photo quickly emerged of Tamura. He then went to a different floor and shot people before killing himself on the 33rd floor, Fox reported.
