Summer heat returns, August starts cooler around Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Summer heat is on the rise across the greater Portland-Vancouver area Tuesday and Wednesday.
Sunny Tuesday skies will make it feel like the middle of summer around Portland as temperatures return to the low-90s. The high heat will be found across much of the Pacific Northwest as thunderstorms cool central and eastern Oregon locations briefly.
The wildfire threat remains elevated across central and eastern Oregon. Dry lightning along with gusty winds from dying thunderstorms will keep the wildfire concern elevated. The afternoon and evening thunderstorm threat will last through the middle of the week.
Those trying to find relief from the heat in area rivers need to keep safety at the top of mind. Wearing a life jacket, swimming with a group, and limiting exposure to cold water will help keep swimmers safe.
Temperatures are expected to cool as August arrives on Friday. An increase in the clouds will help cool afternoon highs into the upper-70s by the end of the weekend and the start of next week.
