1. Multiple people shot, including police officer, in NYC skyscraper: sources
Five people were shot, four fatally – including an off-duty NYPD officer – when a man carrying a long gun opened fire in a Manhattan skyscraper in Midtown Monday evening, officials said.
2. Pittsfield leaders advance on homeless ordinance
At the last Pittsfield Ordinance and Rules Committee meeting, leaders tabled an ordinance that would address homeless camping and whether they could be fined for violating the new laws. The ordinance also addressed sanitation issues regarding human waste.
3. Texas AG Sues NY Clerk over Abortion Ruling
Acting Ulster County Clerk Taylor Bruck faces a lawsuit from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for refusing to enforce a court judgment against a New York doctor who sent abortion-inducing drugs to a Texan. The litigation pits Texas’s anti-abortion laws against New York’s Shield Law, which is supposed to protect reproductive health care providers from out-of-state legal actions.
4. Police declare East Greenbush child death non-criminal
East Greenbush Police Officers have been investigating the death of a one-year-old that happened on May 8 at a daycare. Police announced on Monday that the child’s cause of death was determined to be sudden unexplained death in childhood.
5. Schenectady city council votes down Good Cause Eviction
Another city considered, on Monday night, whether or not it should opt-in to tenant protections under the state’s Good Cause Eviction law. Leaders in Schenectady were the latest to vote down the measure.
