Popular Movie Theater Chain Has the Perfect Drink for a ‘Harry Potter’ Marathon
In the magical Harry Potter world, certain food and beverages are iconic. Luckily for most mere muggles, those specialty items have jumped off the page and screen and into the real world. For Regal movie theater guests, a new sweet treat is waiting to be sipped, and it is just as delicious as people expect.
Even people who have never cracked open a Harry Potter book know Butterbeer. The specialty beverage that Harry, Hermione and Ron sip at the Three Broomsticks while hatching their secretive plans is just as iconic as Coca-Cola. While people have tried to engineer their own recipe, the only place where that cold, frozen or even hot beverage has been sold is at Universal's theme parks.
Recently, Regal announced a special Butterscotch ICEE. The frozen beverage is topped with cold foam and a caramel drizzle. The special, limited time offering will be available from August 20 through September 3. To clarify, the company does not call this drink Butterbeer nor is it associated with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Although it is not the official beverage, the sweet butterscotch drink with a frothy cold foam does feel like the magical sipper that people might drink in Hogsmeade. It may not come in a frosty mug or bear a wizard’s spell, but it is quite tasty.
Fan reaction was swift. One person said, “Why couldn’t this be released earlier, I need this NOW.” Another person commented, “Perfect way to chill this late summer!”
While some people were concerned that the beverage is quite sweet, others felt that the indulgence is worth the experience. When paired with a big bowl of popcorn, it will be an epic movie theater treat.

The Butterscotch Icee launch seems to be well-timed to the Back to Hogwarts event. From August 20 through September 1, movie theaters, including Regal, will be showing the popular Harry Potter films on the big screen.
Adding the sweet, frozen beverage to the menu is extremely smart for Regal. Popcorn buckets might get all the attention for new movie releases, but classic movies offer a stronger emotional connection. Harry Potter fans will want to sip and snack on food and beverages that relate to the movies.
Although this particular offering is not an officially licensed Harry Potter beverage, it is not the first time that food brands have been inspired by the beloved Butterbeer flavor. Earlier this year, SmartPop, Goldfish, Hershey's Kisses and many more brands collaborated with Warner Bros for Butterbeer season.
