Israel kills Al Jazeera’s Anas al-Sharif and four colleagues in Gaza
Israeli forces have killed Anas al-Sharif, one of Al Jazeera’s most prominent correspondents in Gaza, in a strike on a tent for journalists outside Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital. Four of his colleagues, Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, and Moamen Aliwa, also died in the attack on Sunday night.
The tent, positioned at the hospital’s main gate, was used by the network’s staff to file reports from Gaza City. Al Jazeera described the incident as a “blatant and premeditated attack on press freedom” and accused Israel of attempting to silence coverage ahead of a planned military takeover of Gaza.
