Del City family left in the dark after company installs solar panels that don't work
DEL CITY, Okla. (KFOR) — A father and son are left scratching their heads after a solar panel company came to do an installation and then ghosted them.
Daniel Anderson and his 98-year-old father live together, and earlier this year, they were interested in getting solar panels installed.
A salesman appeared at their door, and it seemed to be a perfect coincidence.
The man claimed to work for Green Light Solar, a company servicing Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Colorado, and Arizona.
"I told him I wanted to pay cash for it. I didn't want to do the financing," Anderson said.
Before the installation in April, Mother Nature took a blow at their roof during a hailstorm. They were in need of a roof replacement and wanted to hold off on the panels, but the company insisted on going through with the project, saying they would remove them when the roofers were ready to make the repair.
"He kept wearing us down, talking to us again and again, saying, No, it's not going to be a problem. We finally let him go ahead and do it, called him a week later to have them taken off because the roofer was ready to come out, and no phone call back, no one's talking to me," Anderson added.
It's now been four months, the panels are still on the home and do not work. Anderson and his father are now being billed for the project, costing them more than $40K.
Anderson said, "The panels on the roof… don't know what to do with them, can't really take them down because we're afraid of liability on them, you know, such a bad situation all the way around for us."
News 4 tried calling the company, and no one answered. We also tried emailing and haven't heard back.
"What I want to have happen is I want the company to come out and take their panels and go away. I want the finance company to go away," Anderson said.
Anderson said he filed a complaint with Attorney General Gentner Drummond's office, but his complaint was sent to the Texas AG, because it's believed the company is based there.
We reached out to Drummond's office to see how many complaints they receive from fraudulent solar companies in the state. They were unable to get us that information due to a network outage.
