Guess What Beyoncé Just Won an Emmy For
Congratulations to Beyoncé on winning an Emmy for … costume design? Yes, costume design! Beyoncé won her first Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Programming, one of the juried categories announced August 12. It’s for her work on Netflix’s Beyoncé Bowl, which aired on Christmas Day and is nominated for two more prizes at the Primetime Emmys on September 14. She shares the win with Shiona Turini (costume designer), Erica Rice (assistant costume designer), Molly Peters (assistant costume designer), Chelsea Staebell (costume supervisor), and Timothy White (head of workroom). The juried-award winners get their moment in the spotlight at the 77th Creative Arts Emmy Awards, taking place across two evenings, Saturday, September 6, and Sunday, September 7. (FXX will air an edited version of the ceremonies on September 13.)
Beyoncé was previously nominated for eight Primetime Emmy awards, though never for Costume Design. Most famously, in 2016, Lemonade lost in the Outstanding Variety Special category to The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special. Then, in 2019, she was nominated in the same category for Homecoming and lost to … Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney Live From Liverpool. Thank goodness there were no Carpool Karaokes to be nominated this year. Now, on to the other half of the EGOT.
