Panhandler allegedly slashes, robs subway riders after asking for money
KINGSBRIDGE HEIGHTS, The Bronx (PIX11) -- Two subway riders were robbed and slashed in the face after they refused to give a panhandler money on a train early Saturday morning, police said.
The first victim refused to give the panhandler money on board a D train at the Kingsbridge Rd. Station in the Bronx around 3:55 a.m., according to authorities. That's when the panhandler pulled a knife and took the victim's phone, officials reported.
Shortly after, a second person was approached for money, to which they also refused, police told PIX11 News. The panhandler then slashed the victim in the face and took their backpack and cellphone, authorities said.
The panhandler ran away from the scene, and the investigation is ongoing. The victim, who was slashed, is expected to recover.
