Mexican restaurant in Albany closing after 42 years
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- El Loco Mexican Café, located at 465 Madison Avenue in Albany, is closing after 42 years. Owner Patrick Noonan made the announcement about the closure on Thursday.
"This is not a decision I came to lightly," said Noonan. "The restaurant world has changed dramatically since the pandemic, and while we have worked tirelessly to keep El Loco thriving, the truth is the landscape around us shifted in ways we simply couldn’t ignore."
El Loco Mexican Café was opened by Marcia Tolive in 1983. In 2012, Noonan purchased the business, keeping the same recipes and staple dishes as before. The restaurant serves burritos, tacos, quesadillas, fajitas, and more.
El Loco's last day of service will be Saturday, September 6. Noonan went on to thank his employees, past and present, as well as his customers and friends.
"As we prepare to close, I’d like to invite you to come visit us one last time—or as many times as you can over the next two weeks," said Noonan. "Let’s fill these last days with the same warmth and joy that have carried us through the years. Come share your favorite dishes, raise a glass with us, and give this team the send-off they so richly deserve."
