After Repeated Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Snubs, This Band Found a Morbid Workaround
Devo has become known for their quirky visuals, satirical lyrics, and synth-driven sound. But their undeniable influence on music and pop culture hasn't been quite enough to get the group into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Devo has been snubbed from the honor not once, but three times.
Frontman Mark Mothersbaugh recently addressed the repeated shutouts with a mix of humor and resignation, and even a solution for a different kind of tribute for the band.
"We've struck out three times, so that's probably it for us," he told Ultimate Classic Rock.
But Mothersbaugh isn’t giving up entirely. Instead, he’s hatched a clever—albeit somewhat morbid—backup plan.
"They have a parking lot next door," he explained, noting Ohio’s lax burial laws.
"You can actually bury people in your yard if you file and get the permission and stuff like that," he continued. "So I was thinking we could just stack all the members of Devo in this one parking space so we could be Rock and Roll Hall of Fame adjacent, even if we weren't inside."
Mothersbaugh even suggested the idea could evolve into a tourist attraction.
"Yeah, you can charge an extra buck," he joked. The sentiment is equal parts absurd, witty, and strangely practical—AKA classic Devo.
The omission is puzzling considering their pioneering role in music, especially because Rock Hall already houses pieces of Devo’s legacy. Their iconic stage suits and their trademark energy dome hats reside there. But the band itself remains un-inducted.
Maybe one day!
