Vermont man sentenced after being accused of evading police
BENNINGTON, Vt. (NEWS10) -- The Bennington man accused of evading the police, leading to a manhunt that lasted over a week, was sentenced after being convicted of aggravated assault and assault and robbery resulting in injury. Zachary Dumas, 39, will face a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 30 years in prison for each charge.
Dumas was captured after an arrest warrant was issued for him for attempted murder on September 8, 2023. Bennington police said Dumas managed to evade them despite help from the Vermont State Police and New York State Police.
The defendant was then found guilty of the assault charges, but acquitted on the attempted murder charge in June following a jury trial.
