Active Shooter Reported at Shoshone County Courthouse in Wallace, Idaho
An active shooter has been reported at the Shoshone County courthouse in Wallace, Idaho. The building also houses the local Sheriff's Department.
This is a developing story, and reports are preliminary. The news broke out in the early evening of December 26, 2025. The Mineral County Sheriff's Office in nearby Montana confirmed the active shooter reports in a Facebook statement. "The online reports of an active shooter at the Shoshone County Courthouse in Wallace, Idaho are accurate. We are sending reinforcement to help our neighbor. Please pray for all law enforcement. And stay out of the downtown area in Wallace if possible!" the office wrote.
Videos Showed the Law Enforcement Response to the 'Active Shooter' Scene in Shoshone County
Videos and photos posted to X and Facebook showed a law enforcement response to the scene in Wallace.
According to KREM2, "The Shoshone County Courthouse, sheriff's office and jail are all housed in one building." It's not clear which section of the building the incident was occurring inside, however. That television station reported that several businesses in the area were also describing a large police presence.
The Shoshone News Press reported, through a source close to the Sheriff's office, that "the alleged shooter is 'holed up' inside the building, in the attorney visiting room." That newspaper noted that witnesses heard "at least seven gunshots ring out around 2:30 p.m."

The Shoshone News Press reported that law enforcement "is responding to a reported active shooter at the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office in Wallace," citing the Kootenai Counrt Sheriff's Department.
It's not yet clear whether anyone was killed or injured or what the motive is. The suspect's name was also not yet clear.
Law Enforcement Was Forming a 'Perimeter Near the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office,' Reports Say
"It has been confirmed that police are currently responding to an active shooter, with units forming a perimeter near the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office," KHQ reported.
Fox28 spoke to a local business owner who said shots were fired into a hardware store.
"The owner of the Ace Hardware store located across the street from the Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that an individual shot into their building. The Ace Hardware staff members are in lockdown in the store’s basement," that television station.
Eight different law enforcement agencies had responded to the scene, according to the Shoshone News Press.
