Travis Kelce Receives a 4 Word Message from NFL Legend on Retirement Decision
With the Kansas City Chiefs officially eliminated from postseason contention, legendary tight end Travis Kelce has a decision to make regarding his future with the team. As he prepares to make that decision, he has received some advice from a fellow legendary tight end.
As Kelce mulls his options, four-time Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski offered a bit of advice.
Travis Kelce's Retirement Decision
After a blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl following what was the worst season of his career statistically, Kelce briefly considered retirement during the offseason before opting to return to the Chiefs for another season.
Kelce said he felt “a responsibility in me to play out the contract,” which expires after this season. That, combined with Kelce’s declining physical abilities, his high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift, and a budding career in media or entertainment, has led to a lot of speculation that this could be his final season in the league.
Kelce has acknowledged that a decision is indeed coming, as he made it clear that he intends to make his decision early enough to give the Chiefs plenty of time to plan accordingly.
“Seeing my brother go through it, and seeing how the league works, the season re-starts in April, and I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not, and vice versa — whether they want me back or not,” Kelce said last month. “I’d like to make that decision before they’ve got to get draft picks and free agency opens, or gives them an opportunity to fill the roster appropriately. All that will be at the end of the season. I won’t be thinking about it until then.”
While Kelce has tried his best to keep the media attention away from his retirement decision, it has continued to be a major storyline throughout the end of the season.
'Listen to Your Gut'
As Kelce continues to mull his retirement decision, four-time Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski offered five words of advice to Kelce: listen to your gut.
“The only advice that I would give him, because I’ve been in this situation before, is listen to your gut feeling,” Gronkowski said on Good Morning America this week. “If you truly love the game of football and you feel like you belong out there on the football field, well then, go back. Look at your options, see what’s presented to you on the table, and weigh it all out and take your time.
“If your heart’s not in it, well then you got a lot of opportunities ahead of you and he’s gonna be successful in whatever he does in his next venture.”
We'll have to see what Kelce ultimately decides to do.
