Dozens Dead, More Than 100 Injured In An Explosion At A Switzerland Ski Resort
More than 100 people have been injured and at least 40 have been killed in an explosion at Switzerland's Crans-Montana Resort.
A fire broke out at a bar on the resort in southern Switzerland during a New Year's celebration. The fire broke out at Le Constellation, according to the New York Times. The possibility of a terrorist attack has been ruled out.
Smoke was reportedly seen around 1:30 a.m. Police got a call for help shortly after that. Three jets took burn victims to Zurich, which is located 90 miles away. Most of the survivors are between the age of 16 and 26, hospital spokesperson Claire Charmet told the Swiss news outlet 24 heures.
“Significant resources have been deployed from a forensic medicine perspective, primarily to identify the victims,” Beatrice Pilloud, prosecutor general of the canton, or state, said in a news conference.
Authorities have said it is too early to comment on the cause of the fire, The New York Times reports.
Our thoughts are with the victims and their families at this time.
