Iran’s foreign minister warned that the country’s armed forces are on high alert to defend national sovereignty, responding firmly to Trump’s warnings amid domestic unrest.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that the country’s armed forces are on high alert and know exactly how to respond to any violations of Iran’s national sovereignty. His remarks came in reaction to US President Donald Trump’s statements promising intervention if Iranian authorities use force against peaceful protesters.
Araghchi described Trump’s message as reckless and dangerous, suggesting it reflected the influence of individuals who mistrust diplomacy or mistakenly deem it unnecessary. He emphasized that the Iranian people firmly reject any external interference in their domestic affairs.
The foreign minister highlighted recent nationwide protests sparked by rising dollar prices and inflation, noting that while most demonstrations have been peaceful, some incidents have escalated into violence, including attacks on police stations. State media reported three fatalities in Lorestan province alone on a single day.
Iran has a history of responding strongly to foreign criticism of its domestic protests. Previous demonstrations, such as those in 2019, were met with force, and the government consistently labels unrest as “riots” or “agitation” rather than legitimate dissent.
Trump’s remarks follow a pattern of US officials warning of intervention in Iran, drawing sharp condemnation from Iranian authorities, including statements from top security advisors like Ali Shamkhani and Ali Larijani, who called such threats interventionist and provocative.
Araghchi reiterated that Iran’s military is fully prepared to defend national sovereignty and that any violation will be met with a decisive response. He framed US intervention threats as a continuation of policies aimed at destabilizing Iran.
Other Iranian officials echoed the warning. Ali Larijani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, called Trump’s statements an act of meddling and urged citizens to support their military. Ali Shamkhani, a senior security advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, cautioned that any aggressive approach by foreign powers near Iran would be met with a “regretful and immediate” response.
The Iranian leadership’s firm response underscores escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington, particularly amid ongoing domestic protests and international scrutiny of human rights issues in Iran.
