4 NFL Head Coaches Have Been Fired Since Sunday Night
The NFL regular season ended yesterday, which means today is "Black Monday," when coaches and executives around the league are handed their pink slips.
This year, the firings started early, with the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans canning their head coaches during the season. Since Sunday night, four more coaches have been sent packing, leaving a total of six open jobs at the moment, with more possibly to come.
Falcons move on from Morris
Shortly after beating the New Orleans Saints in the regular season finale to send the Carolina Panthers to the playoffs, the Atlanta Falcons fired head coach Raheem Morris after two years at the helm.
Morris went 8-9 in both seasons to finish 16-20 overall. Counting his 4-7 mark as an interim head coach during the 2020 campaign, the 49-year-old went 20-25 as head coach in Atlanta.
In addition to firing Morris, the Falcons let go of general manager Terry Fontenot and restructured their front office, hiring Greg Beadles as President and CEO.
Browns cut ties with Stefanski
In his first four years as head coach of the Cleveland Browns, Kevin Stefanski went 37-30 with two playoff appearances and one postseason win. However, the team's performance cratered in 2024-25, as Cleveland went 8-30, including a 5-12 mark this season.
Stefanski was fired on Monday morning, while general manager Andrew Berry remains and will lead the coaching search. Meanwhile, Stefanski is reportedly going to be a prime candidate for the Titans and Giants openings.
Cardinals close out the Gannon era
After starting off this season 2-0, the Arizona Cardinals proceeded to lose 14 of their final 15 games. That showing led to the dismissal of head coach Jonathan Gannon after three years.
Gannon went 15-36 in the desert, his best showing an 8-9 mark in 2024. He will likely be a sought-after defensive coordinator candidate this offseason.
One-and-done for Carroll in Sin City
When the Las Vegas Raiders tabbed Pete Carroll as their new head coach last offseason, the thought was that the one-time Super Bowl champion would help stabilize an organization that had been rudderless for too long.
Instead, Carroll's tenure was a disaster, with the Raiders going 3-14 in 2025. Las Vegas moved on from the 74-year-old on Monday, with minority owner Tom Brady (yes, that Tom Brady) and general manager John Spytek now leading the search for the franchise's sixth head coach, including interims, since the start of the 2021 season.
More moves on the way?
It's possible that this won't be the end of the coaching changes. John Harbaugh's future with the Baltimore Ravens is in question, and we could always get a surprise move from one of the teams that gets eliminated from the upcoming postseason.
Either way, the NFL coaching carousel is off and running in 2026.
