Thomas Frank reveals whether he is tempted to send Mathys Tel on loan away from Tottenham
Thomas Frank has revealed where Mathys Tel stands in Tottenham Hotspur’s plans as talk of a loan move begins to surface.
Tottenham Hotspur have struggled to play front-foot football for much of this season, with their games often appearing flat and uninspiring.
Thomas Frank must find a way to address this, as pressure from supporters continues to mount on the Dane, who has frequently been on the receiving end of boos at the end of matches.
Last time out against Sunderland, Frank looked to freshen things up in attack by including Mathys Tel from the start, handing the forward his first start since October.

Tel joined Spurs last winter from Bayern Munich on a loan deal, with his move made permanent in the summer of 2025, although game time has still been hard to come by.
The forward has played just 375 minutes for Spurs in the Premier League this season and has started four of those appearances.
Speaking about Tel’s performance and the possibility of the forward being sent out on loan, Frank explained his thinking and assessed where the 20-year-old currently stands in Spurs’ long-term plans.
He told Football.London: “I think it is pretty fair to say that we are maybe a little bit short on offensive options. Hopefully. I think also it is fair, there is no one who has really grabbed that shirt on the left-hand side, so I think that is definitely up for grabs.
“I think it was a positive performance from Mathys. I think he did some positive things and got into good situations.
“He had actually one where he bent it to the far corner where I think he is probably the best finisher from that position, where I think he is a little bit disappointed in himself. It is fair, he is young. It is not like he played five games in a row. I hoped of course for him and for us that he could do it and we have seen it, so that was good.
“I think he was also taking more care of the ball. I think it is a big thing. We spoke about that against Brentford and Crystal Palace. We lost the ball maybe 20 to 25 times. You should never lose the ball. That is also part of it. You cannot break through, okay, you protect it, one more pass, two more passes, okay, then we go again. But overall, positive.”
Why Spurs must keep Mathys Tel in north London
Tel has attracted interest from abroad ahead of the winter window, but he remains is a useful option to have in the Tottenham squad, given his versatility, as he can operate on both flanks and through the middle.
That flexibility makes him an important player for Spurs to retain, particularly when injuries begin to impact the attacking unit.
He remains young with clear potential, but at present, he is not consistently delivering top-level performances for Tottenham, which increases the importance of Spurs recruiting an elite wide forward that Tel could develop behind.
