'Grand Theft Auto 6' Gets Concerning Release Date Update
Grand Theft Auto 6 has been estimated to be one of the biggest entertainment launches of 2026 by most of the video game industry, but some new insider information from a reputable source may point to the game's current release date of November 19, 2026, being a placeholder for a possible delay (again).
According to legendary video game journalist Jason Schreier, from Bloomberg, developer Rockstar Games is not locked to the November release date, as discussed in a recent episode of the Button Mashpodcast. Schreier has also provided some additional details regarding GTA 6's current development progress.
According to Schreier, GTA 6 is still in heavy development and is not complete, based on his latest knowledge. Schreier also stated that the November release date is uncertain, and he doesn't believe Rockstar or parent company Take-Two Interactive is confident it will make this current release plan.
However, Schreier also stated that he believes the November 19, 2026, release date is more plausible than any other previously revealed (and then eventually delayed) release date.
Schreier alleges that "the entire stock of Take-Two lives or dies on this game" and that the publishing juggernaut would rather the game slip into 2027 than to release the game buggy or unfinished.
Schreier also argued that Take-Two Interactive's fiscal year does not end until March 2027, so there are a few months before that official cutoff date if the company is aiming for a same-fiscal-year release as the currently scheduled release date.
Additionally, Schreier has stated that the PlayStation 5 is the main focus for the companies and that Sony is allegedly making its own release line-up schedules around the release of GTA 6.
None of this information comes directly from Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive, so fans should take all of these reports with a grain of salt. However, given Schreier's high credibility in the industry, such as accurately predicting the shadow-drop of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered last year, Schreier's word carries more weight than the average rumor or leak.
Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not made any official statements regarding another possible delay of GTA 6 or any general development updates for the game.
