'Game of Thrones’ Star Aims to Deadlift Over 1,100 Pounds at the Enhanced Games
Hafthor "Thor" Bjornsson has made a habit of breaking world records. The former Game of Thrones star, known for his brute role as "The Mountain," announced he''ll be joining the growing list of athletes headed to the inaugural Enhanced Games in Las Vegas later this year. And his sole motivator for participating is to break the deadlift record, yet again.
"I truly believe that I am capable of pulling, if I want to, if my desire really wants to, I can pull this record to 550 [kilograms]," Bjornsson told TMZ Sports. "I'm not saying I will deadlift 550 on May 24. I'm saying, if I wanted to pull it to the absolute limit, I am capable of that. But on May 24, I'm gonna be smart. I'm gonna think long term, and I most likely will only go for 515."
For us Americans, 515 kilograms converts to roughly 1,135 pounds. While it sounds like a stretch, Bjornsson has lifted pretty close to this weight before. After missing a 501-kilogram deadlift attempt at the Arnold Strongman Classic last February, Bjornsson successfully deadlifted 505 kilograms just five months later at the Eisenhart Black Competition.

But in true Mountain fashion, he didn't stop there. At the 2025 World Deadlift Championship, he proceeded to pull a 210-kilogram deadlift, once again rewriting the record books.
Now, his focus is on the Enhanced Games. The new Olympic-style sporting event openly allows athletes to use performance-enhancing drugs, making it the first of its kind. As you could guess, the concept has sparked plenty of debate across the sports world.
Nevertheless, fans are in Bjornsson's corner and eager to watch the strongest man on Earth once again make the ground shake when he takes the stage in Vegas later this year.
